A gift

I’m so excited to share this post with you! It’s not often that I get to share design projects (the biggest reason being confidentiality agreements…). This one is so special, and near and dear to my heart.

My grandmother is a New Year’s Eve baby. A nurturing, wise woman who taught twelve children life’s most valuable lessons about the power of faith, family and love. (You read right :: 12!!) She’s always cared for others in the most sincere and gentle of ways. I think of her as a wise, admirable woman for everything she’s endured and the heartache she has seen—but there is always joy in her heart, a smile and a wink to tell about it.

The family gathers together in the summer to celebrate Christmas in July (complete with white elephant gift exchange)—and after celebrating my grandfather’s 80th birthday last summer, found it fitting to celebrate our grandmother’s 80th at the same event this year.

She is known for amazing chocolate chip cookies. And the most unbelieveable, melt-in-your-mouth pear jam. And so much more. So my aunts and uncles thought it would be fitting to collect and share some of her—and our—favorite recipes in one place. And it would be only fitting to add photographs from her earlier years, favorite sayings from when my aunts and uncles were younger (with 12 I’m sure there are some choice ones!), and a reflection of how much she is loved and cherished by everyone around her.

I don’t know who feels more blessed to have been able to be part of this gift: me for being able to create a piece that the family will treasure, or my grandmother who has the warmth of everyone’s hearts at her fingertips. I think we’re both equally lucky… :)
