Some of my favorites on my Pinterest boards lately…from luscious golden light to polka dot flats and nearly everything I adore in between…shout if you need an invite! (And you can thank me later for all the fun you’ll have!!)
Do you use Pinterest? I just received an invitation (whooppeee!) and am so excited to have one collective place to put ideas, images and stuff I love. There is SO much eye candy everywhere you look.
If you would like an invite, email me! info {at} cathymoresphotography {dot} com
Ooooo! Who wants to be the first to send me some of these?! Nary a green one in sight!
I’m kind of giggling to myself that they come from Paper Source, but whatever, Dots are Dots in my book.
So I feel like I’m not the only one who stands on the soapbox anymore about gracing your walls with not just one portrait, but the impact of several in a grouping.
Me Ra Koh had a perfect example on her blog this week. Her home. She hired a local (Seattle) designer to help her create a bigger impact with her portraits :: and after the arduous process of narrowing down to her favorites (just like we do in your viewing and ordering appointment!) she decided on several large prints to define her space. I love these before and afters — it’s the perfect, perfect way to illustrate how just a few pictures, properly sized for your space, can make a huge difference.
Individually, they’re beautiful portraits. Together, they tell an amazing story of their time in Thailand. Imagine the conversations that those images can spark…remembering adventures, bringing up the emotion and excitement of discovering something new along their journey. The peace and happiness that comes from spending time together as a family. Not only all of that, but you don’t find yourself squinting at the little images to say “oh, who/what’s that?”
Big images = big impact!
The next day, Me Ra featured several people who had shared ways to display their images–some of them, simple and budget friendly, and others, more elaborate collections. I was thrilled to be among the displays she featured from this session and this wall gallery in the client’s home. You can read her whole blog post here! Me Ra is taking photography to a whole new level lately with her features on the Nate Berkus show (I won’t get overly link-happy, google it if you’d like to learn more about the show) and is a regular contributor on his show blog. And there’s more big things to come from her!
I try not to box myself in with these multi-part posts, but I’m having fun being a wardrobe stylist!
So last week we talked about clothing options from Boden. Super cute, a little whimsical. This week we’re hitting up everyone’s old standby, Gap. Notorious for old classics and affordable splurges, it’s is the predictable one of the group – fun, friendly, not over the top. I’m enthralled with their line this fall and totally feeling the vintage, Parisian vibe out of the new collection. Black, gray, red…it oozes cool in a Vive la France sort of way. (Ever seen Audrey Tautou in the move Amélie!? Like that. BTW, in case you’re wondering, I kinda love that movie. An oldie but definitely a goodie.)
I think these outfits would be c’est très magnifique — lovely for mom, with its classic lines (love those jeans!) and a little punch of red. Dad gets lots of classic gray and black, and the kiddos steal the show in an adorable red skirt and velvet jacket or quarter-zip red pullover with black sneakers. Love, love, love.

It’s one of the first questions that gets asked, right after we select a session date. What should we wear?!? It is, hands down, one of most daunting question when booking your photography session… and we’ve all been there :: looking through the family’s closets and (if you’re anything like me) deciding that it’s not up to your expectations…so off to the mall you go.
It helps immensely to have a plan before you start shopping. What’s your family’s style? What kind of tone do you wish for your portraits to have? Formal? Casual? Playful? Do you want them to blend with your home decor (the answer is 100%, absolutely, do-not-pass-go YES if you’re thinking even in the slightest to create a wall gallery)? What kinds of colors do you decorate with the most? What colors make you feel good? Comfortable? Happy?
For the next couple of weeks, I’m going to pick a few of my favorite retailers, online and on foot, to find great outfits for the whole family–mostly casual, but I hope that you’ll use these as ideas for when you’re shopping. It’s fashion–just like art, it’s totally subjective, so you have to choose what feels right for you.
This week we’ll take a look at outfits from Boden. Super cute, a little whimsical, and totally appropriate for everyone. For this, I envisioned a casual look with lots of blues, gray, and earthy brown. With some little punches of fun thrown in.
Dad gets some clean, classic lines. Mom looks super-sharp in a sleeveless cardigan vest and skinny jeans. (And love me that leather jacket! Wowza!) Adorable in polo shirts, cozy sweaters, and snuggle-worthy corduroy dress up the kiddos just right.
I love these options because it looks cohesive…and allows everyone’s personality to come through. And isn’t that what it’s all about?
Happy Wednesday!
With the Fourth of July coming this weekend, here’s a cute (and easy) way to dress up your summer celebration! The lovely Kathleen of Twig and Thistle created this last summer, and it’s definitely worth using again and again. So cute! Downloads and directions can be found here.
Happy DIY’ing!
